Sat 3rd May – Tokyo (Haneda) to Sydney

Last modified date

DW:

This is the last blog post for this trip. Later today we will have landed back in Sydney. We have an early-ish flight (8:30), so just got up and went to the airport.

We are in terminal 2 which is definitely the dud of the terminals. There are only a handful of shops and restaurants and not the sensory overload I am hoping to fill my time before boarding with.

I managed to nearly perfectly convert and spend our remaining yen. I only have a pesky 36 JPY left. After unexpectedly finding 30 more in a vending machine change slot someone else didn’t collect I am tempted to go through other vending machines, but decide against it.

DW: Unfortunately we are not in the R2-D2 themed 787. I look forward to seeing if the awful movie selection from the way here has been updated with slightly more recent awful movies.
DW: We also finally saw Mt Fuji. The final day was very clear, presumably the rain helped to clear all the haze away. I try to convince Caitlin to look at it out the window. Her desire to see the big mountain overcomes her crippling fear, but only just and she steals a quick glance. Later she claims to not really remember seeing it.

  1. Declan, thanks for doing the blog and looking after Caitlin on the flights.

    Did you enjoy your holiday.

Caitlin, look forward to a phone catch up sometime through the week.

  2. If you want to see someone else’s Japan trip equivalent from the 1980s checkout the documentary Tokyo-Ga. It reminded us of just walking around and seeing random things and that being a day in itself.

Your local library may likely have a free subscription to Beamafilm you can use. Both the Blue Mountains and Randwick did.
