Cultural unit: Traditional Vietnamese medicine museum. It’s a bit of a struggle to stretch this to an entire cultural unit. DW – Cholon itself is culture due to it being a distinct region of Saigon (world’s biggest chinatown, whatever that means).
Luxe unit: Luke Nguyen’s restaurant Vietnam House.
The international and sophisticated Caitlin enjoying a morning coffee in the hotel. Caitlin has conniptions if there is more than a 5 minute delay before having her coffee. I want to walk to Chinatown this morning for dumplings which is more than 5 minutes, so this solution is embraced by Cait. DW.I am making Caitlin go to Cholon (Chinatown) for our activity. It has yummy dumplings and culture. Unfortunately, it is very far away and we need to make many pitstops to street vendors to enable the journey. I am sensing today is the day we get the street sweats. DW. This stop in particular is fresh spring roll. CR.A (custard) Apple authorized reseller. DWI am hot and walking so slowly the dragon dancers catch up with us and ask us questions in English. CR. I suspected they were flirting with Cait, so I enforced a hurry along. DWTwo tasty treats for Caitlin. Declan’s taken us to some really interesting places. The Lonely Planet declared Saigon as unwalkable, so Declan’s taken it as a mission to prove them wrong. I am very hot and sweaty right now. Dumps were good, a set cost a little over $2aud which is really going to confuse me next time I am at yum cha in Sydney. CR. These were very yummy dumps. I believe it is important to keep Cait grounded. DWThe sounds of a Cholon market in the heat of midday over some dumplings. DWDragon statues prove this is Chinatown. Not pictured are the park rats. DWMoving ice into restaurants is a necessary, heavy activity with tap water not fit to drink. CR.The Museum for Traditional Vietnamese Medicine was pseudo museum, the main purpose of the intricately carved wooden tube house being photoshoots. It’s actually really hard to walk around in the narrow space and we are constantly ruining someone’s photos. There was a guided English tour included but we were at the back and it went so quickly that we dropped off nearly instantly. CR.This was an artful shot. CR.There’s a plaque that may or may not be in English in this room but how to get to it?… CR.Declan was inspired by the photoshoots. CR.Spending our luxe unit at Luke Nguyen’s restaurant. We did not spot the great man. CR.Was a great meal, the butter seafood in the yellow sauce on the right being the standout, which would have been perfect if they didn’t charge $12aud for a bottle of water. CR.
Enjoyed photoshoot day 😀 we will have to go to Luke’s Sydney restaurant when we are next there. Glad you went and glad it was yummy. Xx
If i attempted that walk, which I wouldn’t, I would be drenched head to toe in sweat.
Great photo of Declan at the medicine museum. This reminds of the wand shop in digon alley. I obviously have watched far too much Harry Potter.
How can bottled water cost more in Vietnam than in Sydney. That must be the tourist luxury tax. Hope did you rate the food and was it fair value.
