Final day in Vietnam before flying out at 7.30pm Vietnam time. Whether you fly at 7am or 7pm, there’s always a bit of milling about on the last day.
Traditional Vietnamese music from outside the opera house in support of Volvo. The audience appeared to be entirely random people on scooters who just happened to be driving by. DW.You wouldn’t know it but there is a bicycle in there somewhere. CR.Last breakfast in Vietnam. CR. We have excess Vietnamese currency which means time to indulge. We did a coffee experience which is code for overpriced coffee. These exist in Australia for basically the same price, but that is not how holidays work. Hopefully this activity convinces Caitlin to support an upgrade to my machine. DW. Declan has my moral support to upgrade but I suspect he is referring to financial. The man in the photo is as serious about coffee as he appears. CR.The sounds of overpriced coffee being prepared. A sound Caitlin should expect to become very familiar with in the Mount soon. DWThe end result. Pretty good. Fun times. The waitress sheepishly acknowledged she still likes a traditional Vietnamese style coffee with condensed milk which is definitely blacklisted from this store. DW.Also, this is the entrance floor to the coffee shop, a visual signal that you are about to spend many multiples of what you usually would on coffee. CR.Typo’s continued international success and domination of the overpriced stationary market continues to defy Paul Reulein’s comprehension. DW.Footpath scam, one of the classics. CR.Most shops (from the height of luxury to pretty no frills massage shops) in Vietnam have a ‘security’ guard. As far as we can work out they are in charge of giving some order to parked motorcycles. They are mainly older, frail men (the one in the photo is younger than most), a layer of employment we don’t have in Australia. CR.Often, after you’ve almost completed a passing of six lanes of traffic with no traffic lights or signage, and you’ve got goosebumps from motorcycles zooming the wrong way into lanes (is there a wrong way in Vietnam? A lane is a lane, who would decree a direction of travel on it right or wrong?) your attempt to walk is humiliated further by a barricade. CR.
It’s 8.09am 14/01/24 and you have just landed back in Sydney. Thanks for sharing your big adventure. You both did an amazing job. Sleep well and we will chat when you get over the flight. So much love M xx
The level of skill to pack and ride that bike is unparalleled.
Had a chuckle about the coffee comment from the waitress. I suspect that her comment was not part of her training and wouldn’t be looked on favourably by the owner of the shop. The entrance to the store is next level fancy.
If mum had invested as the counter party to every sage financial advice I had offered through our life we would be flying on a private jet to ski in aspen.
Great last photo of a well maintained footpath.
I think I have cracked the mystery of why they place barriers on the footpath next to zebra crossings. It is not to stop people from using them. It is to try and stop scooters from driving off the road up onto the footpath.
Really appreciate that both of you made so much effort with the blog. It has been fascinating and has supplied a real insight into your travels. If we just sat down when you got home and chatted and looked at photos I don’t think we would have been immersed in the sights, sounds and tastes like we felt by reading the posts each day.
Anyway I’m off to eat my wheatbix which isn’t going to cut it after all your great food experiences.
GLAD YOU HAD FUN AND ITS GREAT TO HAVE YOU BACK HOME.
I’m also about to start my extra slow coffee percolation so I think you might be in your unit as I’m sipping on my coffee.
