Declan’s Den – To Be a Bachelor

Last modified date

It is time for Caitlin to leave this little town of Sydney and go on a trip to the big smoke. Unfortunately, this means Caitlin has to fly and is a nervous wreck for 12 hours before. Fortunately, this means our loyal blogees get another guest post.

After dropping Cait off I was resolved to not waste the day, so decided to walk back from airport through various light industrial and commercial zones. Highlights include:

  • Trying to go to Grounds of Alexandria for morning coffee, discovering they had Santa visiting, but he would only see you if you ordered a drink or food and quietly, but quickly walking away.
  • Being told by an old lady walking past me while I was drinking a coffee and reading that she “loves to see people reading, it’s so nice”. My pleasure.
  • Watching Godzilla: Minus One in the George St Gold Class. Both the movie and seating were OK and fun, but I think in hindsight I will not be as enamoured with either. If they gave you free popcorn and a coffee I would be much happier with Gold Class. The movie had an ongoing theme about the futility of sacrifice that the ending only avoided hypocrisy on due to a technicality with an ejection seat. Either that or I didn’t get it.
Little Cait on her big trip. Don’t let her nervous posture fool you, this is a woman who loves to soar on jets and is at home amongst the clouds.
Nothing captures the organised chaos of an international airport more than a Flight Centre in the departures hall. You’d have to be either unhinged or desperate to sit on that oddly central red seat and engage them.
Contrary to popular opinion, it is possible (albeit difficult) to walk to the international airport. If you want to save $15 on the airport train station access fee and get your workout in before your flight, hit me up and I’ll give you the inside scoop.
Not the coffee the old Lady complimented me during. The Mexican eggs were because the benefactor of this meal had banned me (rightly so) from burgers after two weeks of an atrocious diet.
I think the nicest grass in all of Sydney in in the park next to Sydney uni.
Yomie’s is my favourite fun Eastern desert drink. I can pretend it’s healthy and is good for a warm day. I intended to have a treat focus for meals this day, but that just meant I ended up having treats and regular meals.
Maybe around 20km. Not the most direct route, but a fun one!
