Thurs 28th Dec – Singapore (River Safari, Bird Park)

Final full day in Singapore. Time was spent at the River Safari and Bird Park. These wildlife parks take about an hour each way to get to and were the only activities of the day. I am secretly glad to depart for Northern Vietnam tomorrow and have a break from Singapore’s indomitable humidity. Thank you to Declan for contributions to today’s post.

The toucan is classically the silliest of birds. Big thanks to Kellogs for sponsoring the bird show and getting a toucan to fly through a giant froot loop. This was well received by all in the crowd (second to the African yellow naped parrot singing happy birthday). DW.
It is unclear how pandas can survive anywhere other than a dedicated centre with at least a dozen professionals on hand at all times trained to address their every concern. DW.
Wet MRT journey back to the city from the wildlife parks. CR.
It rains often in Singapore during the wet season. Most days have a heavy downpour in the afternoon that reduces to a light drizzle and dries up by the evening. DW.
A Singaporean classic, Bak Kut Teh, alongside braised pig trotters. CR.
I am tired with headache and lightly sweaty only 10 minutes after leaving the hotel in the evening, holding the day’s third sweet drink (currently a Milo). A classic end to a Singapore stint. CR.

    How was the pig trotter?

    Do you think anyone else in Singapore knows about the dum dum club?

  2. Pig trotters had been slow cooked to the point that they resembled ‘normal’ meat. Declan was the orderer of pig trotters, I wouldn’t have been brave enough.

    Funny you say that about dum dum club, I only wear that shirt in more progressive areas. I was too scared to wear it in Malaysia!

    There is a running joke in the podcast that one of the hosts always goes to Thailand. He goes about four times a year for holidays.
